Week 1: The founding of Daylight on 28 March 1991

Today, 35 years ago, Daylight was officially founded as a private limited liability company. It has been 12,848 wonderful days since then, every one of the 1,110,067,200 seconds of which I have lived intensely. Moments of joy, laughter, tears, hard work, challenges, learning, changing and innovating have followed one another. Getting the chance to spend 35 years building your dream of running your own company is a unique experience.

This anniversary is also a moment for reflection and renewal. That is why I am going to take the readers of this blog on a journey through time. For a whole year, every week I will put a key moment, event or person from Daylight's history in the spotlight. We start right at the beginning. I would also like to invite everyone who has worked with Daylight and has an experience they would like to share to send it to me, and it could become the topic of one of the coming weeks.

Daylight (then still called Hi-Light) was started by Ward Roef in a student room in Ghent at Sint-Jansvest 26. After a few initial years as a sole trader, a private limited liability company "Daylight" was founded on 28 March 1991 by Ward Roef and Christophe Dewil. The address at the time was Franklin Rooseveltlaan 308 in Ghent.

The articles of association were published in an annex to the Belgian Official Gazette on 26 April 1991.
