Contrast ratio

The contrast ratio is the ratio between the luminance of the brightest white and the darkest black a screen shows. A black LED package lowers reflection and thus raises the contrast ratio: industry measurements give outdoor about 3000:1 (black) versus ~1000:1 (white). High contrast improves legibility and colour saturation, especially in bright light. See also luminance contrast.
